Butler Family Farm
THREE GENERATIONS OF CARING FOR THE LAND
Welcome to Butler Family Farm. We are a third-generation farm producing milk from a small, mixed-breed herd of dairy cows; pastured beef from our mixed-breed steers; and high-quality round and square hay bales.
Our land is what sustains us, and we have been caring for it for three generations. Our fields are mostly clay soils with a few sandy veins and shale ridges. Three streams run through the property that we share with a collection of wildlife including Blue Herons, hawks, coydogs, deer, and the occasional owl.
Our dairy and beef herd has access to pasture all year round and eats a diet of fresh grass, haylage, and a small amount of corn silage from forage grown on the farm. The dairy cows enjoy a little bit of grain right before milking and all of our calves receive some grain in addition to their diet of second cutting hay.
Our cows’ diet comes predominately from our farm, they have plenty of space to roam, and they don’t receive any preventative antibiotics. As a result, our beef provides a source of natural, whole-food protein that we’re proud of.
We are lucky to be surrounded by a strong agricultural community and vibrant cultural activity. We are happy to add our beef to the list of local food options.
